Garden Update

Wow I've been pretty busy with the garden. The fence is at a standstill as the garden needed planting like now. I did take notes and will insert them here and the odd picture. Doesn't look like much but it's finally taken off.

Had to go back and see when the last time was with pictures! It's been awhile...sigh....and I'm supposed to be retired!

I moved these starts upstairs to begin hardening off. This was the May long weekend.

Planted

By the moon...added baking soda, hot pepper flakes

May 1 - potatoes, radishes

May 1 - started peas in potting soil, left outside

May 10 - corn, beans, peas (direct sowed), swisschard (direct sowed)

used a pvc pipe to plant into center of bales (1corn, 1bean) 6" apart

May 15 - lettuce, kale, spinach, beets, dill

May 24 - transplanted peas

May 25 - transplanted celery

May 26 - transplanted cukes, marzano tomatoes...lost all cukes &a some tomatoes...to sun? Baking soda? Covered with white fabric creating sunshade

May 28 - transplanted basil, thyme, rosemary, tomato, hot pepper into one pot. Parsley overwintered! Also upside down pots, tomato on bottom, petunias and marigold on top.

Replanted cukes from seed. Moved raspberry into another spot. Planted blueberries into big pots.

May 29 - replanted peas, swisschard (soaked seeds overnight) some peas into starter pots as this method worked well before. Planted nasturtiums into sink (presoaked). Planted catnip into pot. Carrots & plastic forks. Used pvc pipe to plant carrots. Need to watch as the soil plugged up bottom easily.

May 31 - planted onions, beets. Transplanted tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, cucumber. I am starting to think that two of my bales will not grow anything. Everything has died thus far. Rain today and tomorrow. Perfect time to transplant.

June 1 - so far so good in the bales. Smashed down mushrooms. Started big pots with veg's & herbs. Worked on pot tower. Thunder is starting to rumble.

June 3 - replanted corn, beans. Planted way more pots. Brussels sprouts are wilting in bales. Placed sandpaper as a collar around them. Sprayed all bales with neem. So many bugs! Planted marigolds in bathtub. Squash is also wilting. Planted a marigold in one of the failing bales to see if it survives. Hoping something will grow!

June 7 - side dressed with 10-52-10 replanted a couple of tomatoes. Planted lettuce, celery, leeks, bok choi purchased from Georamas

June 9 - planted cabbage, more flowers, dill, more tomatoes, sweet potatoes. Sidedressed front bales with 10-52-10

June 14 - I am down to the last 5 tomatoes to plant and a few straggler pepper, kale & basil. The cucumber and zucchini seeds are just sprouting. Hope to plant soon. I see swisschard and a pea coming up in the bales!

June 16 - sidedressed with 20-20-20 and watered into bails

Look at the garlic!

Thoughts for next year. Possibly wait until most of the mushrooms have died out before planting. Soak seeds before planting directly into bales and plant only an inch down. Start fine seeds like lettuce in starter pots.
