Keremeos

Brent and I made a daytrip to Keremeos today. The morning was beautiful clear blue skies and a promise from the weather forecast of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Yeah right we think as we drive off.

We stopped for coffee in Greenwood at the Deadwood Junction, our favorite place to stop. Had a great visit with friends from Ft. St. John who were in Nelson for a couple of days and returning to Kelowna to visit more family and then homeward bound. It was hard to fit time in when one is retired now 😉

Picked up produce that we didn’t have enough of. Sanderson Fruit Stand is our preferred stop. Could it be the discounts we received?!

10 dz corn - 4/1.00 (plus another big scoopful, in case we counted wrong )
50 lb field tomatoes - .50/lb ($25)
28 lb Walla Walla onions - $1.29/lb (down from 1.49)
50 lb cooking onions - $16
40 lb apples - $8/20 lb (down from $10) then he was so happy to give us more apples for $8! I haven’t looked in the box yet to see what we got! ( just looked...35lbs!) yikes total 75 lb!
Peppers - $1.79/lb
Hot peppers, habaneros, yikes!
Slicing Cucumbers -.50 each
25 lb carrots -$25

Funny story about the onions....bag says Walla Walla...driving home we stop for gas and I’m thinking really? $16? So I jump out and look at the bag again...they’re FROM Walla Walla...😂😂😂 sheesh...

Another part to our day was to explore Jewel Lake to see if it was an accessible camping place for us. While it was a very beautiful place we think it might be better to go at a different time of year. Elevation at 1200 mtres and temp was 4°....

....and of course we arrive home and it’s pouring rain! I hate it when the weatherman is right ☔️

Let the Harvest Begin

Ten lbs of onions! ....with more to come...I am so excited! Getting a little worried as the weather has taken a huge dive...evening was 6° last night. There are so many tomatoes I don’t want to lose them. 😢

Our seedless green grapes

....turned into raisins and two trays in the freezer

....what was harvested today. The parsnips are not huge but very tasty. The carrots are from the bucket...only a few left
Parsnips, beets,, carrots, cabbage, corn, Hungarian peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, peas!

Redfish are Spawning

It’s that time of year again when the Redfish are spawning. The smoke in the air has cleared quite a lot and it’s a relief to be outside and not get that sore throat and headache. I got to spend some quality time with Valentina and Emily and check out the spawning channels. Every year I seek that perfect photo and can never get enough of watching the evolution of the life of fish.

This is where we went this year. I don’t remember ever going here before. It was so awesome and the trail was quite close to the channel. Made it much easier to see. I chose to use my macro lense....takes awesome portrait shots.

...love taking casual shots like this

...it takes patience to catch one trying to jump this ladder...look closely you can see one at the far edge

Awesome and we ended the day with lunch at Yum Sun which was fantastic!
