Garden Update September

Looking back at the pics from the start of the garden. I am amazed at the growth in the past couple of weeks. I love how easy it is to look after the straw bales. The raised beds have so many weeds and I really hate weeding! When we bought all the fruit & vegs in Keremeos I really thought the garden was not going to be successful and now...wow...I think I'm going to have a nice crop of tomatoes!

It took me almost a week to can/freeze/dehydrate what we brought back and then we had a week of fun with lots of guests. No time to be in the garden. I put the kids to work picking the grapes and I managed to pick some green beans. I made a freezer jam from the grapes with no sugar. It is so good! 8 pints minus 1 that I used in the homemade ice cream. OMG! I still have some grapes to pick from way up high and will try to make more jelly as this seems to be very popular. The freezer jam will be good as a syrup for pancakes or more ice cream.

I didn't have enough beans to make a canner full so I topped the jars with carrots. 1/2 tsp Kosher salt. 8 pints....pressure canner 20 min 15 lbs pressure. I really don't like overcooked vegs, which I think is the case with these, so I plan to use them in soups or stews.
