Monabug Retires: Garden ~ my lifeline

I am so grateful to be able to work in my garden, it is my lifeline these past weeks.

Here it is middle of June already 😲

Summer is coming, may only last a week but it’s coming!

What a difference 2 weeks make in the garden. The weather has been really strange or perhaps it’s the norm these days. This past weekend there was snow on the mountaintops and the temps went down to 5° got a bit worried about my tomato plants. Had to replant beans, beets, peas and some corn. What’s up with that?! However the beets popped up in a few days. Beans are another story. I planted on the same day in a couple of pots and a few in bales. The pots came up a week earlier! So I replanted in starter pots and nothing yet.

I replanted peas and used a pvc pipe as my back was sore. Imagine a blow dart....if anyone was watching they would have got a huge kick...As for the corn this was the 3rd replant. If I keep sticking in the seeds I may get something as I get about 8 plants each time. I will succeed, I will succeed, I will succeed. 🤪

End of June

Radishes have been not bad, no bumper crop but a steady supply for salads and that’s ok. Encouraged I replanted a 2nd crop.

June 13th I fertilized with a water soluble 20-20-20 most everything. Skipped anything recently transplanted as I always add a good handful of 4-4-4 to the mix. I did sidedress the bales with a scant 10-10-10 on June 1st. The water soluble works faster. Hopefully I didn’t overdo it.

I have so many tomato plants left I decided to pick up more soil and buckets. I really hate to throw away any plants! I re-read my notes from last year and I think I only averaged 5 lbs/plant. That can’t be right? I did get 200lbs... I need to increase my yields so am researching the heck out of this. I have a lot of Roma’s this year. Should get interesting. For now I am sticking tomato plants everywhere 🤪
