Starting Indoors

Now that we're back from our Spring Break, it's time to start some gardening.

I have been reading and watching utube videos like crazy. I want this to be successful! So this my way of keeping a record for my successes. I will never remember if I don't! Lol...

Here I'm trying seed pods. Very cool how they expand with warm water. I feel success already!

72 pods in total on this Rubbermaid lid. Sprinkled the top after planting with cinnamon. Supposed to keep bugs away. If anything the basement smells so good.

I also planted into styro coffee cups, poking a hole in the bottoms and placed into trays saved from vegs & dip, etc. this is Brent's setup from his indoor garden that he let go due to lack of time. It is awesome!

The lights are supposed to be an inch from the plants when starting, but this light is so strong that the heat from it is bound to be too much. We originally had surrounded two sides with an insulation and so I left it in place. A clear shower curtain is around the other two sides.

To the right side I placed my little grow light. We'll see if this works before I expand. I read that a 4 ft shop light would work really well for this kind of set up.

Timer is set to be on for 16 hrs.

Watering is to be done from the bottom. I also poured boiling water on the potting soil before planting to kill any eggs that may be lurking.

Link I have been following Rusted Gardening. Really good info and videos.

My list of what I planted Mar 28,2016

Big boy tomato - determinate

Zucchini-Dark Green

Spaghetti Squash - spaghetti pasta

Also cleaned up the strawberry beds and transplanted a few to the deck. Fixed the drip watering system too. Learned that a pointy knife makes for a fine spray! oops...Lol...
